Positive Parkwood: Smiles all around!

Welcome to our positive Parkwood Friday blog. This is a weekly feature where we shine a light on all the great things happening within our school and wider community.

So often social media feeds can dwell on the negatives and that’s why we have chosen to start this feature to add a little Friday cheer before we head into the weekend.

With that being said, please feel free to share all your good news stories with us! For example, if your child has been nominated player of the match we want to celebrate with you. Or if your child has created a masterpiece of artwork let us all enjoy it. Or even if you have found an amazing place to visit locally, share it with us so we can spread the good news!

This Friday we’re celebrating all the smiles returning to school on Wednesday.

After a fun summer it can sometimes feel daunting to return, which is why we’re super happy to see all these amazing photos shared with us on our Facebook page.

We loved looking at them all, there were so many shared with us and they all looked great!*

We had solo’s:

We had siblings:

And we had friends:

We know the joy of seeing friends and the pressure of routine can quickly affect the harmony in a household and some of us have children who are a little more sensitive to change so the back to school vibes can feel very different.

By the end of the weekdays everyone can feel exhausted after a full day of school, work or managing little ones who turn everything into a power struggle and trying to ween our children off summer screen time usage is a battle all of its own.

So if you have a child who is finding the shift back into school routine a bit challenging we have come across a couple of ideas we thought might be useful to share.

  • Love heart hugs: create a little ‘button hug’ on both your hand and your child’s hand with a little hand drawn love heart. If they feel a little lost or in need of a hug they can tap this and feel closer to you. When you meet up at the end of school, you can ask them if they felt your hug.
  • Pocket hugs: (pictured below) you might want to take it one step further and get a physical wish token card to keep in their bag from local favourite Homely Gifts. These are £3.99 and you can find more on the Facebook page.
  • Worry monster: (pictured above) The worry monster will ‘take away’ your childs worries and fears helping them to find away to identify their emotions and move past them positively. They contain a little pocket for your children to write a note and slip their worries in for the Monster to ‘take’. You can find these on Amazon along with books to help children cope with their feelings.

If after a while you still feel your child is struggling then take some time to speak to your child’s teacher. All of the year groups have email addresses for parents and carers to be able to reach out and request support.

If needed you may also need to work with the Family Liaison Officer who is a great help.

Either way, you’re not alone, so remember to talk to your friends and don’t suffer in silence.

Best of luck for the year ahead!
